Art

Art is invalid when it is for an audience. Practicing art on your own for your own gratification is actually a great way to grow on the contrary. Consuming others' art is not the best way to grow, it prevents your full potential. When art is done for an audience, the artist is forcing their impossible to be understood perspective at you and hoping you agree or at least understand. The artist loses himself/herself the moment they are trying to perform for the acceptance of others, they start to exist past their physical body, but that's another talk. For the audient, when they are forced into the art, their personal growth is stunted. In reality, no art would ever be universally lauded. Not one person could perfectly catch what the artist is trying to convey except the very progenitor of the work. Therefore it is not beautiful.

The only caveat to all of this, to save art, is to analyze what art is. Art is communication. If you can describe a painting in words, the painting is void. If the sculpture can be fully appreciated as a photograph, the sculpture is void. In architecture school we always strived to make our building not require signage=communication=art. Action is the peak of clarity. The impulse before the worded thought in your head is the closest we can get to Purism. But it is a shame we have to think in an alien language. We are limited by the words=art dictated by someone else, in my case slave masters, stripping me of forming my own language that could completely satisfy my impulses not tainting them when they become worded thought. 

To clarify, art isn't invalid, just 99.9% of art is, :D. If someone sculpts a raven out of marble and it means the same to the audience as a 10 page paper, then that art is valid, it is getting the point across as quickly as possible. 

Now, what of this? What is the solution? What would a Purist society perform like? The hope is that there is an essential human connection that would transcend the need for speak in a completely "actualized" world. But that isn't the world we live in. And that is why my main charge started. Every Miley Cyrus video inhibits the viewer from a more complete self awareness. So many forms of art coming at you, poetry, dance, music, even fashion, telling you, screaming at you to understand! You are not normal if you don't get this! Be like us! Who is us!? So then the viewer reads the comments to make sure they get what everyone else gets ( I am 100% guilty, it has become a pastime of mine). Why do we do this? Existence, but that's a whole other blog.
