Chiraq

This stupid documentary kept making me almost tear up. The disparities in race and economic opportunities is so complex and diverse. Such a cycle. It's hard to simply point to race, but we are visual creatures. If a majority of those around you look like you. You will be begin to talk like them. You will begin to act like them and think 'this is how life is'. All of us are just born into situations. We can't know another way. I admit it is hard to see each other without race. Ethnic pride and heritage are made to seem good and noble, but I think they just prevent us from truly experiencing what we are. Just labels to simplify things. It's the reason why Rayquan from the hood, given a good shot at improving the economics of his situation, won't do as well as Steven from the suburbs. Steven has loving parents and an underlying pride to simply maintain his 'peoples' level of success. Whereas, Rayquan would be a phenom, a feel good story, but, he is too worried about short term problems like eating dinner that night to think too hard about far away things.

Endnote- None of us asked to be here, it is small to write off peoples situations as I would have done this, this, and this differently. No you wouldn't have. Once you understand all the inputs and outputs going on everyday with a single person, you see that we really are just physical bodies drifting through meta-physical ideas with no sails.
